FAQ
We want to ensure our Welcome Home Capital Campaign is understood and that we are completely transparent throughout this project. Please submit any remaining questions to this form, and we will personally follow up with you.

Why is the goal $1.1 million when the total project cost is $2.7 million?
Thanks to the conferences disciplined stewardship of our past donations and insurance proceeds we are starting the campaign with $1.6 million in hand. That leaves our total to raise at $1.1 million.

What does the full project budget include?
Construction & Soft Costs $2,400,000
Construction Contingency (10%)$240,000
Campaign Costs
$84,000
Total Project Cost
$2,724,000

Who is the architect?
Aldersgate is working with Johnson Early Architects to design the new lodge. Lead architect Brian Early, who developed our 2012 plans, is returning to adapt those original concepts into a design that fits our current needs and budget. Final designs will be completed after conference approval.

Are the construction cost estimates final?
No, the current estimates are planning estimates from our architect Brian Early, not locked contractor bids. Final designs will be completed after conference approval.

When will construction begin? What has to be true before we break ground?
We will not break ground until we have the full $1.1 million in cash and pledged commitments. We anticipate that to be in the fall of 2027. It is important to Aldersgate and the Conference that we conduct this campaign in a fiscally responsible way.

What happens if we do not raise $1.1 million?
The $1.6 million in secured funds is sufficient to construct a functional base building, but not to build the visionary structure the campaign envisions. A meaningful shortfall would mean descoping: reducing finish quality, deferring features, or building a smaller footprint.

Will this compete with other United Methodist giving?
Aldersgate donors are a distinct giving pool made up of alumni, camp families, retreat users, and community members whose giving is activated specifically by their camp experience. They are not the same population as typical Conference-level donors.

What is the history of fundraising for the lodge?
We have been raising money for a new lodge for over 20 years. Various circumstances required construction to be deferred. For every donor who gave to the lodge fund in the past we will be honoring their gifts - the Kinser Family has named the lobby.

What is the plan if construction costs come in higher than our estimate?
We have designed our goal to include a 10% or $240,000 contingency budget for this reason exactly. We do not want any surprises to delay or stall our construction phase.

Can I donate through a pledge paid over time?
Yes! We ask that you consider a three-year pledge payable across calendar years 2026, 2027, and 2028. That structure means a $3,000 gift becomes $1,000 per year, and a $300 gift becomes $100 per year. Whatever your best gift is, we want to ensure it is as accessible as possible to make it.
